Within this subject area the Council will be addressing the following questions between 2016 and 2019:

  • What are the most important points to consider regarding maintaining a sustainable and diverse set of higher education institutions, which are equally accessible to all?
  • How can originality and diversity in research be maintained, given the strong growth in science output, in quantitative terms, and its negative side effects? How can we weigh quantitative and qualitative elements in assessment procedures in hiring?
  • What are the policy implications for a sustainable and accessible higher education system?
