50th anniversary of the Swiss Science Council

The Federal Council established the Swiss Science Council on 26 March 1965. The Swiss Science Council SSC, as it is known today, has therefore been in existence for 50 years.

On 5 and 6 October, the SSC celebrated its anniversary with the following events:

The Swiss Science Council (SSC) formulates theses and recommendations regarding a suitable framework for biomedical research in Switzerland, with the aim of safeguarding its high standards and development. The recommendations are primarily aimed at institutional actors encouraging and regulating biomedical research in Switzerland, as well as at research institutions and private actors.

The SSC presented these recommendations on Monday, 22 June, in the presence of Prof. Alfredo Morabia (Columbia University & Queens College, New York) and other interested parties.

The Swiss Science Council (SSC) has made a series of recommendations on Swiss tertiary-level education that take into account both the higher education sector (Tertiary A) and the professional education and training sector (Tertiary B). Observing that the profiles of the various tertiary-level institutions are tending to converge more and more, the SSC wishes to remind everyone of the importance of reinforcing the specific characteristics that set each type apart. In particular, this reinforcement requires reclarification of the different profiles and improvement of the plasticity of the education system as a whole.

On Monday, 27 April 2015, the SSC presented and discussed its recommendations in the presence of Prof Dr Jürgen Mittelstraß (President of the Austrian Science Council) and other interested parties.
